We have tried a number of different approaches
on how best to maintain networks, servers and desktop machines and have
found that there is no single answer. We have had the best results
when we take a holistic approach to network health including:
Automated patch management to all work stations
Manual patch application to servers scheduled
during monthly maintenance windows
Centralized anti-virus and spyware detection on all servers and work stations
with daily signature updates
Group policies that enforce security settings
and limit rogue applications being installed on work stations
A good firewall with stateful packet inspection
Off-site hosted email anti-virus and spam filtering
before it ever gets to your network
Network monitoring of all servers and internet connection
Good quality name brand servers and work stations that are refreshed every
3-4 years
Adequate server memory and disk space for the services provided
UPS battery backup for graceful power shut down and surge protection
A good backup system with off site storage
"I think the level of service and professionalism that you have brought to KIPP is hands-down the best thing that could've happened to us given that we are still in the process of developing our strategy for fulfilling our mission. I believe that the stability that your services have provided have allowed our teams to function more efficiently than they have in the past. At the end of the day, we appreciate your services and look forward to continuing our relationship with you."
